The energy was electric, the lanterns were glowing, and the sense of community was undeniable—Art Lights the Night was an unforgettable experience!
We began the evening at the Leslie Science & Nature Center’s Energy House, where families explored hands-on activities, learned about the history and meaning behind lanterns, and captured memories at our whimsical photobooth.
Kids and parents got creative, engaging in art projects and interactive exhibits before heading outside for the highlight of the night—a guided lantern walk. As the sun set, we led families through the illuminated trails, where artist-crafted lanterns, shimmering luminarias, and twinkling lights transformed the landscape into a glowing wonderland, making for a truly magical experience.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible sponsors and partners who helped make the magic happen!
Rec & Ed kept spirits high and bellies full with a cozy s’mores station by the fire. Families gathered to toast marshmallows and enjoy a sweet treat, taking breaks between bites to sled down the nearby hill. The warm fire and tasty snacks added to the fun, creating a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the evening.
Center Design & Build brought creativity to life with an interactive lantern-making station, where young artists transformed recyclables and found materials into their own glowing masterpieces. With paint-streaked hands and big imaginations, kids eagerly pieced together colorful paper, boxes, and tealights, watching their lanterns come to life. The joy on their faces as they proudly held up their finished creations—each one unique and shining bright—was a true testament to the magic of the night.

Mazuma Trading Co., Busch’s Grocery, and Little Caesars kept everyone fueled for the fun with delicious food and warm cocoa. Families gathered to enjoy pizza, sweet treats, and steaming cups of cocoa, taking a break to refuel before heading back into the festivities. Mazuma Trading Co. also provided horchata from Pillars Tamales, adding a special treat that was a hit with both kids and adults. The generous spread kept energy high and brought people together, making the night even more enjoyable.

One of the most enchanting moments of the night? The lantern walk, brought to life by the Saline Marching Band Drumline, whose music created the perfect rhythm for our glowing procession through the night.

From face painting and glow sticks to unexpected surprises, the evening was filled with joy, creativity, and connection. Every child (and let’s be honest, every adult too!) left with a beaming smile and a warm heart.
At Doodles Academy, we believe in the power of artful learning—using creativity to build deeper connections, inspire critical thinking, and foster community. Art Lights the Night was just the beginning, and we’re already dreaming up more ways to bring engaging, art-filled experiences to families.
