In this integrated project pack, we explore the question, *“How can we use art to better understand ourselves and our unique experiences?”* through four key ideas:

1. Journals help us reflect, understand ourselves, and process big feelings.
2. Identity is multi-faceted and includes our perception of ourselves, the cultural groups we belong to, and the routines and activities we engage in.
3. Through visual details, we can symbolically alter words to emphasize meaning.
4. Artworks and journals are firsthand accounts of a particular person, community, or group during a particular moment in time.

Each key idea includes a learning segment where students build knowledge and deepen their understanding of a topic area.

A second segment features artworks that support learning and deepen students’ understanding of the diverse ways the idea can be approached.

And finally, each key idea also includes an art project that connects everything together and encourages students to do so in a way that is personally and culturally relevant to them.
