Persian Miniatures
In this project, students explore the history and creation of Persian Miniatures, known for their intricate, hand-held illustrations of significant texts and the high esteem in which artists were held.
In this project, students explore the rich tradition of Persian Miniatures—detailed, hand-held illustrations that brought important texts to life and celebrated the role of the artist. Through this historical lens, students learn about the cultural significance of these artworks and the careful craftsmanship involved in their creation.
Inspired by this tradition, students select a favorite story or poem to illustrate. Using an engraving technique with oil pastels, they create intricate, vibrant images that reflect the spirit of the source text. This project blends literary appreciation with visual storytelling, encouraging students to think deeply about how art can honor and enhance written language.
