Dream House
Students create artwork inspired by their dream house, beginning with a structure made from Dixie cups (or blocks for younger students) and drawing it using observational skills.
In this imaginative unit, students design and draw their dream house while building foundational art skills. They begin by constructing a 3D model of their house using Dixie cups (or blocks for younger students), which serves as a reference for practicing observational drawing.
Students then add creative details to personalize their homes, imagining unique features that reflect their personalities and interests. As they move into the final stages, they learn about warm and cool colors and how these can be used to suggest different climates or environments. The project is completed using oil pastels, adding color, texture, and vibrancy to their dream house illustrations.
This project encourages creativity, spatial thinking, and color theory while grounding students in observation and design.
