Create-a-Creatures

Literacy

Students learn about hybrid creatures in mythology, then create their own.

In this unit, students dive into the world of mythological creatures by exploring chimeras from a variety of cultures, including Japanese, Ancient Greek, and Roman traditions. They examine how these fantastical beings reflected the beliefs and values of the societies that imagined them.

Inspired by what they learn, students design their own original chimera creature. Using printmaking techniques, they bring their creature to life, then expand the story by drawing and painting a fitting environment where it might live. This project encourages creative thinking, cultural exploration, and layered artmaking techniques.
