Close Encounters
Students study the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, focusing on her unique approach to framing and composing images. Students then bring in personal objects (or use those provided) and draw them, thoughtfully considering composition, then finish their artwork with watercolors.
In this project, students study the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, focusing on how she used framing and composition to turn everyday subjects into powerful, expressive works of art. They explore how close observation and thoughtful placement can transform the ordinary into something extraordinary.
Students then apply these ideas to their own art by selecting meaningful objects—either brought from home or provided in class—and carefully composing drawings of them. Emphasizing composition and scale, they complete their pieces with watercolor, creating vibrant, personal artworks that reflect both inspiration from O’Keeffe and their own artistic voice.
