Artist, Explorer, Scientist

STEAM

Explore the harmony between science and art through detailed observation and creativity. Begin with field sketches to understand an animal's habits and habitat, then transform your drawings into vibrant watercolor masterpieces.

In this project, students explore the fascinating intersection of science and art through close observation and creative expression. Inspired by the practices of scientists and naturalists, students begin with field sketches to build their observational drawing skills.

Each student selects an animal figurine to study, drawing it from life and researching its real-world habitat and behavior. Using this information, they design a scientifically informed background to support their composition. The project culminates in a series of watercolor paintings that celebrate both artistic technique and natural understanding.

By combining research with creativity, students gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world—and the powerful ways art can be used to explore and communicate scientific ideas.
